Goan author Joseph C. Fernandes speaks about the richness the Konkani language in this interview excerpt. He talks about the importance of a gift in the East, and then provides seven Konkani words that describe types of gifts. His new book, Requiem for a Goan, is very readable and provides insights into aspects of current and past culture and social life in Goa, India. He describes his book as being a collection of social observations and memories of a disappearing way of life.
